Charge against jail employee withdrawn

The Portsmouth woman will have an employment review at Western Tidewater Regional Jail on Monday.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A Portsmouth woman is set for an employment review on Monday after months of being on administrative leave after being charged with a felony. Records from Portsmouth General District Court now show that charge has been withdrawn by prosecutors.

In June, 13News Now reported Jamaica Perry, an employee at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, had been charged with breaking and entering into a home while armed. Authorities said at the time that the alleged break-in was reported to have taken place on May 19.

The jail placed Perry on administrative leave as a result. However, her charge has now been withdrawn.

“Ms. Perry will come in on Monday for her employment review,” Sgt. Whitney Hunter with the Western Tidewater Regional Jail said on Friday. “We were advised by the Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney's office that she will not be prosecuted on this charge.”
