Arrest made in Portsmouth shooting that leaves 1 man dead, juvenile injured

Officers found 18-year-old Tyquan Charles, of Norfolk, dead from a gunshot wound to the upper body, Portsmouth police said.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth Police made an arrest related to an early morning shooting that left one man dead and a juvenile injured on Sunday.

Detectives charged a juvenile male with first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and underage possession of a firearm.

Officers found 18-year-old Tyquan Charles, of Norfolk, dead from a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said.

The call came in around 1:52 a.m. on Buchanan Avenue, police said.

Later, a second victim — a juvenile boy — walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Police believe both incidents are related.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
