NORFOLK, Va. —
5:50 p.m. — Flash Flood Warning for parts of Hampton Roads
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk until 9 p.m. Monday.
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas can be expected as slow-moving, heavy thunderstorms move across the area.
A flood watch is in effect today from 8 a.m. through Monday evening for most of the 13News Now viewing area.
We are on the warm and humid side of a stalled frontal boundary just north of the region.
With humid air in place, and a disturbance moving from the Tennessee River Valley into the mid-Atlantic region, we will likely deal with numerous showers and thunderstorms off and on through the day Monday and Monday evening.
Shower and thunderstorm chances will ebb and flow during the daytime hours, but rain chances will continue through the evening.
We have a level 1 (Marginal) risk of severe weather across the region today.
There is the potential for some of the storms to be slow-moving and this could lead to heavy downpours and an increased threat of flooding.
Runoff from heavy rain may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, where slow-moving storms could overwhelm storm drains.
Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4” are possible over the next three days, with locally higher amounts possible.
