Two indicted for New Year's Eve murder of Norfolk pre-school teacher

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Two people facing charges in the murder of a Norfolk pre-school teacher faced a grand jury on Wednesday.

The grand jury indicted 70-year-old Edward Shaw on a charge of first-degree murder. He was previously facing second-degree murder charges.

His alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Teniqu Cushman, was indicted on conspiracy to commit a felony.

50-year-old Caroline Hendrix, an Oceanair Elementary School teacher, was shot and killed on New Year's Eve in Ward's Corner. According to police, she was not the intended target.

Cushman and Shaw will head to Circuit Court. Cushman will appear in court on June 20, and Shaw's trial date is set for June 25.
