Two planes airlifted from Norfolk airport to Aviation Institute of Maintenance campus

Two planes were airlifted by a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter from the airport to the Aviation Institute of Maintenance school on East Little Creek Road.

NORFOLK, Va. — If you were near Norfolk International Airport on Saturday afternoon you might have seen a BIG air haul in the sky.

Two aircraft were airlifted by a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter from the airport to the Aviation Institute of Maintenance school on East Little Creek Road.

A Sabreliner 80 jet and Cessna 421 plane were towed sometime after 12 p.m.

The school posted on its Facebook page video of the helicopter lowering one of the planes onto a football field.

It took about 15 minutes each to airlift the planes from the airport to the school's football field.

The school set up a hangout area for watchers near Azalea Gardens Road. After the airlift, the school provided a tour of its campus to the watchers.
