NORFOLK, Va. — New murals are coming to the MacArthur Center in Norfolk after three artists were selected.
Three artists were chosen instead of one to create bright, colorful mural designs to engage the community at the center.
The public is invited to meet the artists and watch them create during their painting days.
“Our contest attracted unprecedented interest, so we decided to animate the mall with three murals instead of just one,” said Karen Husselbee, marketing director at MacArthur Center. “We’re so excited to be opening up space throughout the mall for this wonderful creative opportunity. The artists we’ve selected will create lively murals that will engage our community while adding excitement to the shopping experience.”
The winners are:
- Scott Walker: Local artist Scott Walker, an award-winning art director and artist originally from Cambridge, England, was selected for the 12’ high x 40’ long wall on Level 2 next to Fossil. He’ll be painting his mural from July 10 to July 17, inspired by his interests in popular culture, advertising, and branding.
- Rosemarie Spracklin: Rosemarie Spracklin has lived in Virginia for the past 22 years and spent much of her life as a competitive softball player. After her sister encouraged her to start painting, Rosemarie discovered her true passion; art. She will also be painting her mural from July 10 to July 17. Her vivacious, colorful work will be done on a 12’ high x 25’ long wall in the Level 3 Food Court next to Tapioca Go.
- Phoebe Joynt: Is from Austin, TX, will be painting July 29 to August 4 on a 12’ high x 20’ long wall on Level 2 next to Michael Kors. She is known for incorporating modern, urban, and street art elements into her ever-developing pop art style.
These mural artists were selected based on their ability to reflect the community’s diversity and values, while encouraging community participation through photography, filming and social media sharing. The winner’s work will join world-renowned artist Kelsey Montague’s murals in MacArthur Center.
