NORFOLK, Va. — The Virginia Zoo's Masai giraffe calf now has a name. Welcome, Kylie.
On May 20, Kylie was born to Imara and Billy. When she was born she weighed 141 pounds and was almost 6 feet tall.
The rights to name Kylie were auctioned off at the Zoo’s Annual Zoo To Do on June 1. He name sold for $5,000!
Masai giraffes are the largest subspecies of giraffe, and they are the tallest land mammal on Earth. They are native to Kenya and Tanzania, and they are characterized by their jagged spots.
Did you know when a giraffe baby is born, it comes into the world front feet first, followed by the head, neck, and shoulders?
