NORFOLK, Va. — A 16-year-old girl is in custody, accused of making threats against a Norfolk high school.
The Norfolk Police Department said someone reported a possible threat to Maury High School on Monday. After investigating, officers charged the teenager with threatening to bomb or damage buildings.
Police said the teen is currently being held at the Norfolk Detention Center.
Making a bomb threat is a Class 5 felony in Virginia. That means if the person responsible is convicted of the crime, that person faces up to 10 years in prison. The suspect could also face up to a $2,500 fine in court.
