Smoke detectors alert resident to house fire in Norfolk

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the building's first floor, and brought it under control within 38 minutes.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Fire-Rescue is crediting smoke detectors for alerting a person to a residential fire on Wednesday night.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire around 9:30 p.m. in the 7600 block of Nancy Drive.  Crews were able to contain the flames to the building's first floor, and brought it under control within 38 minutes.

The lone occupant got out safely after being alerted by the smoke detectors.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue said the fire was accidental in nature.

No injuries were reported.
