Shooting reported near Triple C Convenience Store, where store manager was killed last year

The shooting was reported around 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Lindenwood Avenue. That's the location of the Triple C Convenience Store.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police are investigating a reported shooting in the same area where a convenience store operator was shot and killed late last year.

The shooting was reported around 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Lindenwood Avenue. That's the location of the Triple C Convenience Store.

Police officers who went to the scene found a man with a gunshot wound, according to Norfolk Police Department spokesman Noel Lipieko.

The man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening, Lipieko said.

The circumstances of the shooting have not been released by police, who continue to investigate the incident.

Damon Lindsey, who lives in the neighborhood nearby, told 13News Now that he visits the store regularly, and that he heard the gunshots on Tuesday night.

"Too much violence going on, it's just too much," he said.

Lindsey said when he heard the gunshots outside his home, he dropped to the ground for safety.

"I’m scared for my nephews and stuff and all that," he said. "You shouldn't have to practice any of that [dropping to the ground] at all."

The convenience store was the site of another shooting just two months ago.

On Dec. 20 of last year, two people were shot outside the store, including store operator 84-year-old James Carter. Friends and family called Carter a pillar of the community who would often feed the hungry and let people in need pay later for essential items like food, diapers, and milk.

Three people are facing charges for that December 2023 shooting.

Lindsey hopes the community can come together to prevent further violence.

"We should be coming together -- strong, as one -- as one big community instead of doing all these killings," he said. "Man, it's just... shameful."
