Sam's Texas Sub Shop to close by the end of August

"It's tough for many these days," the owners said in a social media post announcing the closure.

NORFOLK, Va. — A popular Norfolk restaurant will soon shut down for good.

Sam's Texas Sub Shop plans to close permanently by the end of August.

"Please continue to support our neighbors at Cogan's Pizza, Hank's Filling Station and Craft as well as all of our local businesses in the area or wherever you live," the owners posted on social media announcing the closure. "It's tough for many these days."

"Texas Sub Shop has been a staple of Norfolk for decades," said Wood Selig, ODU's Athletic Director and a frequent patron of the restaurant. "[Restaurant owners] Joe and Jen do such a great job, they've become part of the family, part of the fabric of Norfolk."

"It's a sad situation but since COVID, and now the economy and inflation, it has shrunk our profits to almost nothing," said co-owner Joe Zaremski. "So we decided that we needed to close it down now."

They don't have a firm closing date, but they expect to be closed by the end of August. From now until then, you can stop by Sam's Texas Sub Shop at 4311B Colley Avenue.

"Thank you for all of the support over the years," Zaremski said. "We've had great times here at Sam's Subs, and we look forward to the next chapter in our lives."
