NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Department of Human Services held its first-ever Resource Block Party on Monday. It was a gathering for neighbors to peruse booths from local organizations offering different kinds of social aid.
Denise Gallop, the director of Human Services, said she hopes they'll be able to host an event like this every six months or so.
"Any time we can pull a group of providers together who have the same like-minded spirit that we have about helping our families, helping our kids, and helping our seniors, we want to do it," Gallop said.
The types of aid varied from job opportunities to mental health services, as well as providing resources for children and the elderly.
The free event was held in the Neon District.
"We're excited to be able to do this right in the heart of downtown Norfolk," Gallop said.
