Tidewater Drive in Norfolk reopens after person taken into custody following narcotics investigation

Norfolk Police said a little after 8 a.m. that Tidewater Drive near Barraud Park was closed in both directions. It has since reopened.

NORFOLK, Va. — Tidewater Drive has reopened in Norfolk after police closed it for several hours on Tuesday morning.

The Norfolk Police Department said a little after 8 a.m. that Tidewater Drive near Barraud Park was closed in both directions while "investigating an incident in the area."

Many police and police vehicles were seen in the area. Around 9:18 a.m. Norfolk police updated to say a person was taken into custody following a narcotics investigation.  Tidewater Drive was reopened about an hour later.

Norfolk police, the bomb squad, Norfolk Fire Rescue, forensics, and a SWAT truck all responded, this morning.

Authorities surrounded a two-story home on Denhart Street with their guns drawn. This is across the street from Huntersville Park.

Crime scene tape stretched on Tidewater Drive from Goff Street past Goochland Street as officers directed traffic around the scene which appeared to be a barricade situation.

Police have not released any more information about what charges the person in custody is facing, if any.
