NORFOLK, Va. — A 59-year-old man is dead following a crash on North Military Highway on Saturday afternoon, the Norfolk Police Department (NPD) announced Sunday.
In a post on X, NPD said officers were called to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Military Highway and Meadow Lake Drive at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Police later said the driver, later identified as James Askew of Norfolk, struck a tree.
Askew suffered life-threatening wounds and was rushed to a hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, according to police.
The NPD's Auto Squad Unit is handling the investigation which is ongoing.
