NORFOLK, Va. — Old Dominion University men's basketball head coach Jeff Jones announced his retirement Monday, after dealing with recent health issues.
A spokesperson with ODU said Jones finishes his 32-year head coaching career with a 560-418 record, the 19th winningest active coach in Division 1, and is tied for 91st of all time. He spent 11 seasons with the Monarchs.
Monday's announcement at Chartway Arena comes after Jones took medical leave following a heart attack during the team's trip on December 20 to the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, and also to begin treatment for prostate cancer.
In his 11 seasons at Old Dominion, Jones led ODU to a record of 203-131, a Conference USA Championship and NCAA Tournament bid, the NIT semifinals, and a Vegas 16 Championship.
