NORFOLK, Va. — A thrift store in Norfolk was evacuated Monday after employees discovered a grenade that wasn't live inside a donated piece of furniture.
According to a spokesperson from Norfolk Fire-Rescue, fire responders and the bomb squad were dispatched to Thrift Store USA on East Little Creek Road around 1 p.m. A piece of furniture was dropped off, and employees found a grenade inside one of the drawers while cleaning it out.
People inside the store were evacuated while the bomb squad determined whether it was live or not. Using an x-ray machine, they determined it was a real grenade, but not a live one, fire officials said.
Everyone was able to re-enter the store by 3:30.
