NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk SPCA is in urgent need of supplies for kittens and puppies.
"We need the public support. We need kitten food. We need puppy food. It's kitten and puppy season. We need kitten milk replacement. We are in need of supply for all of our animals," said Tammy Lindquest, a Norfolk SPCA community engagement manager.
The SPCA is asking for Hill's brand products.
"If you're going to donate specifically for our animals, we need Hill's," she said.
The adoption center has a community pet pantry. It provides food for cats and dogs every single month.
The SPCA is worried that pet owners who can't afford food may start to abandon them if they don't get donations.
"The problem with that is if visitors or our customers come by and they can't secure the food for their animals, sometimes they will just abandon them, let them out, um take them to another shelter and we don't want that to happen," said Lindquest.
The SPCA has wish lists of items they need on Amazon and Chewy. If anyone buys an item on the wishlist, it will be shipped directly to the SPCA.
"We ask that you provide food that's not expired and not open so that we can help the citizens of Hampton Roads, be able to properly feed their dogs, cats and puppies," Lindquest said.
Additionally with Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, May 12, the Norfolk SPCA suggests people can make donations in mom's honor.
"This week alone, we have received 30 kittens and cats and 25 puppies!" the SPCA said in an email. "Your gift will go toward food, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines and preventative care. The love our staff provides is free and gracious plenty. Help us celebrate mothers everywhere, including our feline and canine mommas!
You can donate on the Norfolk SPCA's website.
