NORFOLK, Va. — Residents living in Norfolk's Calvert Square now have an extra security measure available to them in the event of an emergency.
The Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) announced it installed an emergency callbox in the family community. It's available 24/7, so residents can call in an emergency at any time of day.
"Anyone can use the Emergency Callbox to report a security situation or a health care emergency," according to NRHA’s Director of Safety and Security Karen Rose. "This is just one more way for our residents to summon police or paramedics."
The installation comes following requests from residents.
"Resident safety and peace of mind are at the heart of all our programs at NRHA. This is another example of how we are working to provide both," explained Rose.
According to a release, NRHA plans to monitor how often the callbox is used and determine its effectiveness.
For decades, NRHA's Calvert Square has been housing and providing support to families through the Family Resource Center, Youth Center, Workforce Development Programs and Early Childhood Education Programs.
