NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Public School District will start the 2024-2025 Academic School year earlier.
On Wednesday, the school board voted to start the 2024-2025 school year on August 19th and end on May 30th.
The new changes mean students will head back to school two weeks before Labor Day.
They will also receive 172 full student days, 1,033 hours of instruction, and a three-day Thanksgiving. However, it will eliminate March Break.
School Board Member Nichelle Stone was concerned about the change.
“I do want to acknowledge the one thing this is missing, which is that teachers are going to be emailing us about eventually missing March break. That’s a big break between February and April.”
