Norfolk Public Health Department asking residents for input in mental health survey

The survey is completed once every 3 to 5 years. The survey takes 2 to 5 minutes, and it asks residents questions on their current mental health and other topics.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Department of Public Health is asking for the community's help in filling out a survey that will help determine strategic goals for years to come.

The survey takes two to five minutes, and it asks residents questions regarding their current mental health, counseling, and insurance.

However, there are several questions in the survey that are also geared to quality of life like access to fast food, and how violence has impacted their lives.

Dr. Adolph Brown, a mental health expert, said there are two ways people can find out what is most important to them before taking the survey.

"Self reflection and self correction: Reflect, spend time by yourself thinking about what it is you want from loved ones, what is it that you want for yourself?" said Brown.

Once NDPH has acquired all of their answers, leaders said they will form a plan to address some of the critical, identified needs found in the community.

In a statement, they said: "This commitment goes beyond simply providing healthcare services to individuals. NDPH believes that to truly make a difference, the department must also focus on building trust and actively listening to the needs and concerns of the community."
