Norfolk man wins lawsuit against police officer

The officer currently works for the Virginia Beach Police Department.

NORFOLK, Va. — A Norfolk man has won a lawsuit against a police officer he accused of illegally arresting and assaulting him.

Barthonia Miller called Norfolk police in 2021 for help with a domestic dispute. On July 25, a federal jury determined Officer Mark Mormando used excessive force on Miller, unlawfully searched him, and falsely arrested him.

Mormando now works for Virginia Beach police. He's been ordered to pay Miller $20,000.
