Deadly shooting under investigation in Norfolk

Police say the victim fled the scene after the shooting before crashing into another car a short distance away.

NORFOLK, Va. — A man who crashed his car after he was shot Thursday night in Norfolk has died, police said.

The Norfolk Police Department said officers were called to the 1500 block of Kerrey Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. for a report of a car accident. When they arrived, they found the driver was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim, 48-year-old Christian J. Williams of Norfolk, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe the shooting happened nearby in the 4600 block of Kincaid Avenue. Williams drove away from the scene but crashed into another car on Kerrey Avenue.

Police have not released any information about what may have led to the shooting or if there are any suspects at this time.
