Norfolk launches new bike sharing program

Using an app, riders can rent a bike from more than a dozen bike racks throughout the city.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- After months of planning, the City of Norfolk will finally launch its new bike sharing program at City Hall on Friday.

Riders can download the Pace app, which allows them to rent and return bicycles from more than a dozen public bike racks.

The app finds the closest available bike on a public rack. You'll pay for as long as you have the bike, but Pace said the first 30 minutes are free.

When you're done, just return the bike to any Pace bike rack, which will lock it in place.

Thanks to a long list of sponsors, all of this comes at no cost to taxpayers.

To sign up and for a link to download the app, visit Pace's website.
