NORFOLK, Va. — Tamika Credle, one of three suspects charged in connection to the death of a Norfolk store operator, appeared in court for the first time Wednesday morning. Credle is accused of accessory after the fact.
In a hearing that only lasted less than five minutes, a Norfolk judge appointed a public defender for 41-year-old Credle.
During the hearing, Credle asked several questions about the court process and told a judge she would still like to search for an attorney ahead of her next hearing.
It comes a week after two people were shot outside Triple C Convenience on Lindenwood Avenue.
Police said a fight outside the business led to gunfire, striking store operator James Carter who later died. Another man, Shontel Cradle, suffered injuries from the shooting. Cradle told 13News Now he and Carter tried to break up the fight before shots were fired.

Police later arrested three suspects – Dennis Hisle, Bruce Hisle and Tamika Credle.
Dennis is accused of pulling the trigger, and faces charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Court records say Bruce Hisle had the gun. Police said he is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon.
Documents say Credle drove the getaway car. However, Credle told investigators she didn’t know anything about the shooting. Credle also said she had no idea how the gun used in the shooting got into her glove box.
Credle is scheduled for her next hearing in February. Bruce Hisle, the third suspect, is expected to appear in court in February. Dennis Hisle was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday but didn't.
