NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Botanical Garden is offering a place of healing in support to the neighbors and friends who were impacted by the Virginia Beach mass shooting.
The Garden is offering free admission from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7. It's located at 6700 Azalea Garden Road in Norfolk.
Norfolk Botanical Garden President and CEO Michael Desplaines said it's a place of peace, serenity, and healing.
"It's not strange that we would be attracted to plants and we would be attracted to plants and want to be in nature at a time when we feel hurt and we need healing," he said.
"There's definitely something about not being in a built environment that's so good for you, physically, mentally, and spiritually."
Desplaines said they want to help people find peace in the wake of tragedy.
"There's a place of healing for everyone here and we wanted to make sure we were free and open for that," he said.
The Norfolk Botanical Garden has over 60 different gardens to explore. Some of the gardens event showcase styles from different parts of the world, while others are focused on one particular type of plant.
There are 175 acres to discover and 7 miles of paved paths, and another 7 miles of unpaved paths to explore.
