NORFOLK, Va. — A man has been charged for an alleged shootout with police earlier this month, the Norfolk Police Department (NPD) said.
Markell T. Taylor, 25, was charged with the incident that involved NPD in the 800 block of Bagnall Road on May 24.
Police said they tried to stop Taylor, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, in the 900 block of Bagnall Road at around 8:18 p.m. When officers attempted to approach him, he ran away and allegedly started exchanging gunfire with police.
According to Police Chief Mark Talbot, one officer was hurt but not by gunfire. Taylor was shot multiple times and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
On Tuesday Taylor was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder on law enforcement, two counts of use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said he is still recovering in the hospital and will be transported to Norfolk City Jail upon his release.
