Norfolk animal shelter seeks donations on final day of waiving adoption fees

Following a busy holiday season, the Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center is looking to find animals their "fur-ever" homes and load up on supplies.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center (NACC) is working to find animals in its care their forever homes and stock up on supplies ahead of the new year.

Following a busy holiday season, the shelter is looking to fill its shelves with its Stuff the Bus event on Sunday.

From 11 a.m. to noon, the NACC's Waggin' Wheels will be parked outside the shelter collecting items through the drive-up and drop-off donation.

New or gently used towels, blankets, toys, collars, leashes and harnesses of all sizes are among the supplies most greatly needed, shelter officials said. Organizers will also accept new and unopened dog and cat food and treats.

If you're looking to help even more and are prepared to take on the responsibility of a pet, the shelter is also holding its "Happy Pawlidays" adoption event. Sunday is the last day the shelter is waiving all adoption fees.

"The shelter is full of so many wonderful animals waiting to meet you," the shelter wrote in a release.

The shelter will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 but says potential pet owners can visit during adoption hours between 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. every other day, except Wednesdays.

If adoption isn't possible right now and you still want to welcome a furry friend into your home, the shelter says it's always looking for foster families to provide the pet a temporary home.
