NORFOLK, Va. — There will soon be more parking in Norfolk as the city readies for the NEON District Streetscape Project.
The City of Norfolk announced on Friday that it is adding 40 new parking spaces, in addition to re-striping the existing on-street parking spots located on Virginia Beach Boulevard, Monticello Avenue and East Wilson Avenue. The new spots will be available for two-hour parking Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and with no time restraints during the night or on Sundays.
Further, according to a release, the city plans to replace signage in the neighborhood.
The work, which is expected to be finished by mid-June, is all part of the city's preparation for the NEON District Streetscape Project. The project intends to improve the area's infrastructure, including reconstructing the roadway and sidewalks, updating traffic signals, and adding ADA-compliant ramps, among various other features.
"The NEON District Streetscape Project is more than just a beautification project," the city's website reads. "These critical infrastructure improvements will benefit businesses and residents for decades to come. Additionally, the project provides new technology to enhance the overall visitor experience. These improvements to the NEON District will reflect and enhance the energy of the area, the people and the businesses."
