Foodbank's mobile food pantry supports Norfolk residents

Organizers with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia share that the resource has become more needed amid increasing food insecurity and rising grocery prices.

NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads residents looking for help getting food on the table don't need to go far to find what they need.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore hosted a drive-through food distribution on Saint Paul's Boulevard on Tuesday. Organizers and volunteers spent the day loading cars with groceries to help families and individuals have enough food to last the week.

Organizers share that the need in the community has consistently been growing since the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent months, grocery prices have been on the rise, increasing the number of people facing food insecurity across Hampton Roads.

Saint Paul's hosts these mobile food pantries on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The foodbank holds several mobile food pantries across the Southside, Western Tidewater, and the Eastern Shore at multiple locations. They update information on where and where these drive-through distributions are held on their website every month.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore aims to provide food support and basic needs to those facing food insecurity and hunger.

For those living on the peninsula, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank offers similar resources.
