NORFOLK, Va. — A man was sentenced to a year and six months on Friday for several crimes related to driving the wrong way on Interstate 64 in Norfolk in 2021, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office announced Monday.
Bradley Rolle Jr., 30 was sentenced in Norfolk Circuit Court for driving in the wrong direction on the interstate while allegedly under the influence of drugs and for having a firearm as a convicted felon.
According to a release, just before 6 a.m. on Dec. 13, 2021, Rolle was driving in the wrong direction on I-64 near the I-264 interchange, and pulled over into a shoulder lane.
A Virginia State Police (VSP) trooper noticed Rolle's car while it was stationary and facing the wrong direction. While speaking with Rolle, the trooper claimed he noticed there were signs that he was impaired and had him do field sobriety tests.
During the tests, Rolle was unsteady and did not follow all the trooper's instructions, officials said. He was then taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.
When troopers searched Rolle's car they found a pistol under the driver's seat. Rolle had previous felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
After the arrest, the troopers got a warrant to draw Rolle’s blood. Forensic testing of his blood showed that he was under the influence of a combination of cocaine and THC.
Rolle pleaded guilty in August 2023 to possessing a firearm as a felon and to misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
On Friday, Judge Robert Rigney accepted Rolle's guilty plea and sentenced him to one year and six months in prison with three and a half years suspended on the conditions that Rolle complete a substance abuse program, complete three years of uniform good behavior and supervised probation, have his license suspended and use an ignition interlock device when his driving privileges are reinstated.
