Driver arrested after deadly auto-pedestrian crash in Food Lion parking lot

The 74-year-old driver has been arrested for DUI and could face additional charges.

A Norfolk man has been arrested following a deadly auto-pedestrian accident in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store. 

Police said the accident happened just before 5 p.m. Christmas Eve at the Food Lion located at 3530 Tidewater Drive.

The victim, 69-year-old Benson Adetimehin, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, 74-year-old Charles R. Revele Junior, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He is currently being held at the Norfolk city jail without bond.

Norfolk Police said that once its traffic fatality team has completed its investigation, their findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office for review and possible additional charges.
