Teenager shot, killed at Norfolk 7-Eleven; suspect arrested

32-year-old Jayvon D. Smith of Norfolk is charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

NORFOLK, Va. — A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in a 7-Eleven parking lot over the weekend, Norfolk police said. Investigators said a suspect is in custody.

The shooting was reported Sunday around 5:40 p.m. at the 7-Eleven located at 3025 East Virginia Beach Boulevard. Officers arrived to find the teenager suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have charged 32-year-old Jayvon D. Smith of Norfolk with second-degree murder, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Smith is currently being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.

Police have not said what may have led to the shooting, and the case remains under investigation.
