NORFOLK, Va (WVEC) -- Police say a man attacked and bit a Norfolk Police officer Monday morning.
Around 10 a.m, police officers were dispatched to a psychiatric threatening suicide in the 6100 block of Stephenson Avenue.
A woman contacted police and advised them that her 21-year-old grandson had been having violent outbursts, and threaten to kill himself.
She also stated that he had a gun, however, she thought it was inside a vehicle parked out front.
When officers arrived at the home, they came in contact with the man, who immediately attempted to run from them.
As the officers were attempting to prevent the man from getting to his car, the man bit one of the officers on his hand.
Officers were able to detain him, for his own safety, and theirs.
The officer was treated at the scene by paramedics for a non-life threatening injury.
Deven Earle, of the 6100 block of Stephenson Avenue, was transported to the Norfolk's Sheriff's Office for a medical and mental evaluation, and booked on one count of Felonious Simple Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
Mr. Earle sustained no injuries during the incident.
