NORFOLK, Va. — 13News Now is continuing to follow the case surrounding a double shooting in the Lindenwood community of Norfolk.
84-year-old James Carter was gunned down while working at his family's convenience store on December 20.
The surviving victim from that night is sharing his account with 13News Now. He wanted to focus his message around Carter or the man he called "Pop," as well as the impact he made on the community.
"He was a neighborhood second father to anybody that met him," said Shontel Cradle.

Cradle said Carter proved to him that you don't have to be blood to be family.
"He was always there, generational. I'm talking about my generation, to my nieces and nephews' generation, to my mom's," said Cradle.
He said Carter was a mentor to him. Cradle served time after being locked up at age 16; he just got out of prison a couple of years ago.
"[Carter's] one of the people who gave me the insight to be out here and not be back in trouble," Cradle explained.
Carter was gunned down while working at Triple C Convenience on December 20. The Carter family owns the business.
At the scene, Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said a dispute outside the store led to the gunfire.
Cradle recalled passing by that night and trying to break up the fight, along with Carter, when he was caught in the crossfire. He said he drove to his house to escape the melee, and then his girlfriend drove him to the hospital.
"Three broken ribs and I have an exit wound in my back, so it went straight through," said Cradle.
He faces a long road to recovery ahead. An online fundraising page was created to assist with the associated expenses of his injuries.
Three suspects were arrested and charged last week for their alleged role in the double shooting.

42-year-old Dennis Hisle is accused of pulling the trigger. He was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of use of firearm, according to a Norfolk Police Department press release.
Bruce Hisle, 40, was at the scene of the crime and had possession of the murder weapon after the shooting, according to court documents. He has a court hearing scheduled in February in connection to charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon.
Court records also indicated Bruce is wanted in other jurisdictions.
Tamika Credle, 41, is accused as an accessory after the fact. She drove the getaway car, court documents said.
Credle told detectives she was unaware of the incident and didn't know how the gun — a semi-automatic weapon — ended up in the glove box of the car she was driving.
Both Credle and Dennis are scheduled to appear in Norfolk court on the morning of December 27.
