NORFOLK, Va. — You now have a new way to scoot around Norfolk.
About 150 Lime e-scooters arrived at city hall early Monday morning, with many of them getting ready to be dropped off in Waterside District.
The electric scooters cost a dollar to unlock, and fifteen cents a minute to ride.
The goal is to have 500 scooters in the city by the Fourth of July. It's part of a year-long pilot program that will help the city assess the viability of electric scooters as a mobility option for Norfolk residents and visitors.
Lime uses a dockless system, so riders can park their scooters almost anywhere.
City leaders considered proposals from four different electric scooter companies. Ultimately, they decided Lime would be the best fit for the area.
Previously, the city experienced problems with Bird scooters that were dropped off without permission. City Spokesperson Lori Crouch said if Bird scooters pop up again, the city will pick them up.
