NORFOLK, Va. — Governor Glenn Youngkin made a stop in Norfolk to donate his second-quarter salary to the New E-3 School. His second-quarter salary amounted to $43,750.
The money will go towards the preschool's students and scholarship programs.
"I've said many, many times - it all starts with parents," said Youngkin. "When we have great teachers and we have a whole community engaged - we can change the future of our kids and that is exactly what's happening here and across the Commonwealth."
According to the new E-3 School's website, the school gives children innovative initiatives to give children under the age of eight higher deductions. This includes science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math.
The school has roughly 130 students, and Youngkin said its model of teaching is taught in 4,000 classrooms across the Commonwealth.
"The curriculum is such a big start, and it's all about sharing the best practices for the best our children can be," said Youngkin.
The money will also go towards scholarship opportunities as the school is a private preschool, and tuition can cost up to a thousand dollars a month.
Youngkin said he is working with the General Assembly to improve public education across the Commonwealth.
"We can build a foundation that begins to achieve the objection that every 3rd grader will be able to read at 3rd-grade level," said Youngkin. "We can then be confident that Virginia's children are prepared to succeed."
The school also has ties to the late Pat Robertson's family. His family matched the governor's donation to the school.
