NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- There are new developments in the federal probe into the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, and former Sheriff Bob McCabe.
In a statement to 13News Now, Old Dominion University spokesperson Giovanna Genard confirmed the school received a federal subpoena relating to McCabe earlier this year:
Old Dominion University has received a federal subpoena related to Bob McCabe’s interactions with the University and is fully cooperating with the request. To clear up any confusion related to the release of this information, the FBI requested that the subpoena not be disclosed so as not to impede their investigation. As always, the University acts with integrity and a strict adherence to the law. We hope this clarifies our actions. After receiving additional guidance from the assistant attorney generals assigned to ODU, the University is making the subpoena publicly available."
During McCabe's time as sheriff, he provided private security for the university at sporting events.
McCabe also sponsored various school fundraisers.
The subpoena, in part, requests paperwork related to security/law enforcement at sporting events, records of items worth more than $100 given to McCabe or employees of the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, and records of season tickets and/or luxury suites purchased by, or in the name of, McCabe.
Just last month Norfolk's new sheriff Joe Baron asked for an audit of the office. The state auditor responded, saying its outside of their normal scope of duties.
