EVMS hosting Tacky Sweater 5K in support of melanoma awareness

The festive holiday event in Norfolk features a walk and run to raise money for EVMS Dermatology and the Dermatology Student Group.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is hosting its 7th annual Tacky Sweater 5K in support of melanoma awareness on Saturday. 

The festive holiday event features a walk and run to raise money for EVMS Dermatology and the Dermatology Student Group.

There will be prizes awarded and all finishers will get a custom medal. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well top three male and female in each age group. There's also a prize for top male and female tacky sweaters. 

The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and will start and finish in front of Smartmouth Brewery in the Chelsea area of Norfolk. The course will go through West Ghent, over the Midtown Tunnel and through Plum Point Park.

Registration currently costs $35 but will go up to $40 on Friday. Same-day registration will be $45. You can find more information about the 5K and register by going to the event's website.
