Popular District Apizza permanently closes in Norfolk

A social media post announcing the closure saw dozens of comments from patrons saddened by the announcement.

NORFOLK, Va. — A popular bar and restaurant featuring New Haven-style pizza as its centerpiece in Norfolk's Railroad District has permanently closed.

The announcement came without warning on District Apizza's social media.

"District Apizza is closed permanently. Thank you to our talented and hardworking staff who helped us realize our vision," they said in a Facebook post. "Thank you to our many guests who embraced our mission to bring New Haven style apizza to Norfolk."

No other explanation about the closure was given, but the post saw dozens of comments from patrons saddened by the announcement.

District Apizza was previously featured in 13News Now's Friday Flavor series.

"We're bringing something absolutely unique and different to Norfolk and Virginia and Hampton Roads in general that you don't really find down here," managing partner Matthew Albano told 13News Now's Bethany Reese at the time.

There's no word on what may be next for the restauranteurs who brought a taste of New Haven, Connecticut, to Hampton Roads.
