NORFOLK, Va. — It’s that time of the year again. This year marks the 48th annual Harborfest in Hampton Roads.
“We’ve been working on this event for an entire year now,” Jordan Lett with Festevents told 13News Now. “The groundwork has been laid, the preparation has been done.”
Lett said his team started setup for the festival earlier this week. Now, it’s crunch time ahead of the three-day festival. Thursday, crew members in Norfolk assembled stages, tents and signs around Town Point Park.
“We got a lot of our vendors loading in,” he said. “We got our lights and sound systems being installed.”
Around 10 a.m., city crews closed off multiple roads in the downtown area, one of them being Waterside Drive where multiple vendors will set up.
The festival is slowly coming to life.
“Our goal is to, we call it show ready, by tonight,” he said. "So that tomorrow, we're just opening up and getting everything ready for the guests to come in and enjoy the event.
Lett said he expects to see about 100,000 people throughout the entire weekend. He hopes everyone can experience something new this year.
“I love seeing the families out here and the smiles on the kids’ faces when they see a juggler on a unicycle doing a trick or something like that…or seeing a fireworks show or the drone show for the first time,” Lett said.
Lett said those are the moments he and many others look forward to every year.
