Congressman Bobby Scott to discuss the nation's economy at Norfolk town hall meeting

Scott says Democrats are offering solutions, while Republicans are complaining.

NORFOLK, Va. — Democratic Congressman Bobby Scott wants to talk about the economy.

He's hosting a forum Tuesday night in Norfolk to discuss the economic accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration.

For many, the economy is the most important issue in the presidential contest, and Virginia's 3rd district congressman believes the Democrats have a record to boast.

"There are challenges but you have to acknowledge that under the Biden administration, we've created more jobs in a four-year term than any president has created in the history of the United States in a four-year term," he said.

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to release her economic plan later this week and on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump will talk about his economic plans in Asheville, North Carolina. An announcement from Trump's campaign states he plans to "deliver remarks on the economic hardships created by the Harris-Biden Administration."

The Biden administration has been plagued with high inflation, although there has been significant improvement with the rate now at 3%, down from an 8% average in 2022.

Scott accuses congressional Republicans of complaining about the problem while failing to offer solutions. Initiatives by Democrats he believes are already working.

"The child tax credit will actually do something, reducing drug prices will actually do something," Scott said.

Tuesday's town hall will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Richard Bowling Elementary School in Norfolk.
