Candidate forum planned on Saturday at NSU

The Greek organizations Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. & Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will host the forum.

NORFOLK, Va. — It is important to vote, but it's also important to know exactly who you're voting for.

Historically black Greek organizations Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and the graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated will host a town hall and candidate forum at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 on Norfolk State University's campus in the Student Center.

"The beauty about hosting this candidates' forum at the illustrious and wonderful Norfolk State University is that we are providing our students, many of which who will be voting for the first time, we're providing them with the opportunities to be informed," said Alpha Phi Alpha Norfolk State Chapter President Jordan Moody.

Moody believes it is vital for voters, especially first-time and younger voters, to be informed as we get closer to Election Day in November.

"Our voice can only be heard when we do vote," said Moody.

In attendance will be candidates running for the United States House of Representatives 3rd District of Virginia along with city council and mayoral candidates for Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Suffolk.

This forum will be a safe space for both students and community members to receive the information they need in order to vote.

"To see and to hear and to understand more about those names that will be on the ballot. To match faces with names but most importantly to match policy and decision-making skills to those names as well because we understand that an informed voter is an impactful voter," said Moody.
