NORFOLK, Va. — Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk unveiled a Virginia historical highway marker Saturday.
The high school celebrated 102 years. It first opened its doors in April 1917.
But its history dates back to 1911 when the Norfolk school board endorsed one year of high school learning for Booker T. Washington.
In May 1914, it became the first accredited public high school for African Americans.
