NORFOLK, Va. — One man accused of murdering a Norfolk State University student will stay behind bars after his bond was denied Thursday.

18-year-old Camari Warren, alongside 18-year old Cameron Brown and 21-year old Marquas Gregg, all face second degree murder, conspiracy, and felony gun charges in connection to the death of Jahari George.

George was a Presidential Scholar at Norfolk State University and was a part of the Robert C. Nusbaum Honors College.

Norfolk police found George shot on Gate House Road on September 2nd. The shooting happened just steps away from NSU's campus.

"Just four months shy of his 21st birthday," said Jahari's mother TeAnna George prior to a private memorial service on September 13. "He was not out partying. He was not hanging out in the streets. While it was considered off-campus, Jahari was parked outside his dorm."

During Warren's bond hearing, prosecutors urged the judge to keep Warren in custody, saying they had video and cellphone evidence that linked Warren, Brown and Gregg at the scene of the crime.

According to prosecutors, a search warrant of Warren's phone revealed that he made phone calls to the other suspects for several seconds leading up to the shooting.

Attorneys said they then obtained video evidence showing all three suspects at the shooting, and that you can see Warren "ducking in the video before the shooting occurred."

Norfolk detectives also allegedly found several stolen firearms in the suspect's car, as well as $12,000 dollars worth of marijuana and several hundred dollars worth of fentanyl.

Warren's attorney pushed back on the allegations, and told the judge there is no proof linking his client to the stolen guns and drugs. He said his client does not have a criminal record and has complied with police during the investigation.

However, Warren's attorney did not fight the court's decision to deny Warren's bond.

Warren is due back in court on March 11th for a preliminary trial. He is also facing several other felonies for an unrelated shooting.
