Woman arrested after 13-hour-long barricade situation with police in Norfolk

On Monday police were called to a home on Gabriel Drive to aid a Sheriff's Deputy. A woman had brandished a firearm while the deputy was serving an eviction notice.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police say that a woman has been taken into custody after an hours-long barricade situation on Gabriel Drive.

On Monday around 11:30 a.m., police were called to a home in the 1400th block of Gabriel Drive to assist a Sheriff's Deputy.

When officers arrived they learned that a woman at the home had taken out a firearm while the Sheriff's Deputy was serving an eviction notice.

The hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded. After many hours of negotiations the woman, 49-year-old Courtnay H. Draughn was taken into custody around around 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday.

She was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries that police say they believe were self-inflicted during the barricade situation.

Draughn has been charged with brandishing a firearm and when released from the hospital she'll be taken to Norfolk City jail. There were no other reported injuries during the incident.
