Allegiant Air to begin service at Norfolk International Airport

Allegiant Air will soon start a new, nonstop service from Norfolk to Orlando.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Allegiant Air will soon start a new, nonstop service from Norfolk to several Florida cities.

The airline, known for their inexpensive flight fares, made the announcement on Tuesday.

"We'll be flying nonstop to Tampa, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale," said Allegiant Spokesperson Jessica Wheeler.

Allegiant expects 109,000 passengers to travel on the routes annually.

Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander attended the press conference and said the airline's addition is great for the city.

"More importantly, having more options for consumers to look at Norfolk as a destination to come to and as well as people flying out of Norfolk for business or travel," said Alexander.

The service from Norfolk International Airport to Orlando Sanford International Airport will begin November 17, with one-way fares as low as $39.

The service from Norfolk International Airport to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will begin October 4, with one-way fares as low as $39.

Allegiant will also offer nonstop service from Norfolk International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starting November 17, with one-way fares as low as $39.

Flights must be purchased by June 22, 2017 for travel by February 13, 2018.

Allegiant used to offer flights at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. Due to rising airport costs, they ended service in August 2014.
