Man convicted in 2022 deadly stabbing in Ocean View area of Norfolk

40-year-old Tiran Lyndell Wilson was convicted of killing Marcos Adan Mata-Monjaras in September of 2022.

NORFOLK, Va. — A man was found guilty of stabbing and killing another man in the Ocean View area of Norfolk in 2022.

The Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said 40-year-old Tiran Lyndell Wilson was convicted of second-degree murder by a jury on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said on the night of Sept. 2, 2022, 46-year-old Marcos Adan Mata-Monjaras and his wife were staying at the Best Western Hotel on East Ocean View Avenue. The couple was alone on the beach behind the motel night fishing when Wilson approached them with a large knife.

Mata-Monjaras told his wife to walk ahead of him back toward the hotel when prosecutors said for no reason or justification, Wilson stabbed Mata-Monjaras in the chest before running away.

Mata-Monjaras died at the scene.

Wilson lived in a nearby apartment and surveillance footage from the hotel showed him walking around that evening with a large knife. Police arrested him at his apartment, although the murder weapon couldn't be found.

Wilson was found guilty of second-degree murder after about four hours of jury deliberation. He's scheduled to be sentenced on June 21.
