NORFOLK, Va. — Two Norfolk men have been sentenced to prison for robbing a North Carolina gun store, the Department of Justice said.
According to court documents, 28-year-old Khari Terell Wood was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison after he broke into Gale Force Guns in North Carolina. On Sept. 20, 2021, he stole five firearms from the gun store. Wood went back on Oct. 21, 2021, and stole 47 firearms. He transported all of the guns to Norfolk.
Wood was later found in a stolen car at his house. He tried to run into the house when officers approached him, but officers were able successfully take him into custody. Police searched his car and recovered several firearms that he stole from Gale Force Guns.
On Oct. 28, 2021, 28-year-old Isaiah Malquawn Hopkins shot through a glass door at Riverview Market using a handgun stolen from Gale Force Guns and stole a lottery box. On March 14, 2022, he was stopped by Indiana State Police for a traffic infraction, and they found the gun near the driver's seat.
According to officials, Wood had previously been convicted of robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Hopkins previously had been convicted of robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit robbery and malicious wounding.
Hopkin pleaded guilty on June 24 to being a felon in possession of firearms. Wood pleaded guilty on June 25 to conspiracy and being a felon in possession of firearms.
