NORFOLK, Va. — Two people were taken to the hospital after officials said a fire spread through their Norfolk home Saturday morning, leaving their pet dead.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue said the residents managed to escape from the fire, however, two of them experienced smoke inhalation. They were taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The fire at the single-story home on Whaley Avenue near Interstate 64 was reported just before 10 a.m. Crews were able to bring it under control by 10:30 a.m.
No firefighters were reported injured.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze but said it ignited in a bedroom.
