1 without home after apartment blaze in Norfolk

Once at the scene, Norfolk Fire-Rescue executed an "aggressive interior attack."

NORFOLK, Va. — An apartment unit in Norfolk was badly damaged by a fire Monday evening, leaving a single resident without a home, officials said.

The fire was reported at 5:36 p.m. at a two-story apartment complex on Selby Place, just off Granby Street and Ocean View Avenue.

Once at the scene, Norfolk Fire-Rescue (NFR) executed an "aggressive interior attack." The blaze was considered under control just before 6 p.m., NFR said.

Despite crews' efforts, the unit where the blaze started was "damaged to the point the occupant could not remain in the home," officials said.

The Red Cross is helping the resident impacted.

No one was reported injured. The investigation is ongoing.
